’80s Bangers The Pop Girls of Today Would Have Sampled/Interpolated if They Were Good At Their Job

But they aren’t and they’re boring, so they haven’t and they won’t. Instead, we get lazy ass samples and interpolations and negative stage presence and boring visuals and bland vocals and pop music that’s not popping from stars who aren’t stars.

Jody Watley – Looking For A New Love

The opening of this song is ripe for the sampling. Have our pop girls done it? No, they have not. Have our pop guys done it? What pop guys? Where? Who?

Stacey Q – Two of Hearts

Kelly fucking Osbourne covered it, of all people. Now imagine if someone with talent was able to take it and make it new? K-pop girl group The Wonder Girls sampled it in “Tell Me” all the way back in 2007 and that song still slaps. We could have a genuine pop smash hit on our hands if someone cared enough to try.

    Billy Ocean – Loverboy

I say, yeah! Yeah! Yeah yeah!!!! That guitar? Come on! Whatever the fuck is happening at 2:42 and then that guitar solo? YES! Gimme! THAT OUTRO!?!?! FUUUUUCK! There’s so much fun to be had here. Throw in some elements of “Turn Me Loose” by Loverboy and you’ve got a fun fucking pop song.

This video is batshit insane in the best way btw.

Kim Wilde – You Keep Me Hanging On

This. Fucking. SONG! Just take those ooh ooh oohhhs alone and you’d have a #1 song, goddamn! Goldmine here.

    The Pointer Sisters – Automatic

And where are the producers and songwriters? Where are they? WHERE? This is BEGGING for a modern re-imagining.

Mary Jane Girls – In My House

oh oh oh oh oh ohhh ohhh ohhhhhhhhhhhhh

Gwen Guthrie – Outside In The Rain

I DON’T THINK THIS HAS EVER BEEN SAMPLED????? Surely that’s not correct!? Hold me, love me is RIGHT THERE!?
