The Exorcist: Believer debuted on top at the weekend box office with a lower-than-expected $27.5 million from 3,663 theaters. Heading into the weekend, the film was projected to debut around $35 million. Internationally, it debuted to $17.8 million for a global $45.1 million debut. Despite the $400 million rights price tag, the film cost $30 million to make. As you can imagine, audiences hated it, giving it a C Cinemascore and a 2.3 on Letterboxd. Fun fact: adjusting for inflation the original film grossed over $1 billion and is the 9th biggest of all-time.
PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie ($11.75 million, -48%), Saw X ($8.15 million, -55%), The Creator ($6.9 million, -57%), and The Blind ($3.1 million, -28%) followed to round out the Top 5.
A handful of indie films debuted this weekend: Dicks: The Musical debuted in 7 theaters and grossed $200k, with a $31k pta. She Came to Me took $360k from 355 theaters, followed by The Royal Hotel ($335k, 267 theaters) and Strange Way of Life ($205k, 276 theaters).
