Happy National Cinema Day ONTD!!
Gran Turismo finally went wide and took in a hilariously bad $17.3 million from 3,856 theaters. Sony has decided to add the $5.3 million it took in over preview screenings the past two weeks to this debut total, so it did even worse this weekend than stated. The $60 million film nabbed an A Cinemascore and a 3.4 on Letterboxd, so maybe it’ll have legs. Probably not. Anyway…
Barbie followed very close behind with $17.1 million and may just take the whole weekend when all is said and done. She has no signs of slowing down, only falling 19% from last weekend. With $594.8 million, expect $600 million within days. Blue Beetle followed, dropping 49% from its debut to $12.7 million. So far it has taken in $46.3 million.
Oppenheimer ($9 million) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem ($6.1 million) also aren’t slowing down either, dropping 16% and 29% respectively. Oppy has officially passed the $300 million mark domestically and IMAX announced this week that its 70mm run has once again been extended. TMNT will pass the $100 million in the next few days.
In indie news, Helen Mirren is Golda!! but no one cared. Golda opened in 883 theaters and took in $1.7 million. Meanwhile, Bottoms debuted in 10 theaters and nabbed $516k, with an impressive $51k pta.
