No, Sofia is not adopted. She was born in 1998 to “All Night Long” singer Lionel Richie and ex-wife Diane Alexander. Sofia’s mom was reportedly Lionel’s mistress while he was still married to his first wife, Brenda Harvey. Brenda famously caught Lionel and Diane together at the Beverly Hills Hotel which resulted in a physical attack and Brenda’s arrest.
Prior to Sofia, the couple welcomed son Miles Richie in 1994, one year before tying the knot. The marriage was short-lived, however, and the couple split in 2003 when Sofia was five, but the former spouses still remain very close.
