Quinta Brunson kills it + Che pranks Jost + the best of the rest from last night’s SNL

    • Abbott Elementary creator/writer/star Quinta Brunson hosted SNL last night and unsurprisingly, she was amazing! In her best sketch of the night, Brunson’s character faced off against Mikey Day in a road rage incident, the pair slinging insults at each other through the window. How they got some of these hand gestures through the censors, I’ll never know.

    • It took eight years, but Michael Che finally fulfilled what I assume was a long standing goal and destroyed Colin Jost live on air.

    • The segment started with the the duo getting a warm welcome, but when Jost started delivering his first jokes he got a noticeably muted reaction with just a small part of the audience laughing softly. Michael Che’s jokes by comparison were met with pointed, bigger than usual laughs. After his next string of jokes, someone in the audience (a member of the cast or crew, I assume) yells “you stink!” at Jost and Jost completely loses it. Che takes pity and reveals that he asked the crowd to not laugh at Jost’s jokes as part of an April Fool’s Prank. Jost does NOT get over it and this is the most endearing the two have ever been on the show.

    • A fan who was at the live show took to Reddit to confirm that Che paid a visit to the audience before they were let into Studio 8H and asked them to participate in the prank, and that Jost truly had no idea as they had not run it in dress rehearsal first.

    • The second half of Update carries over the insane energy of the segment post-reveal.

    • Quinta started off the night with a lovely monologue where she talked about wanting to be an SNL cast member, the unfair expectations people have of her thanks to her show being about teachers and the education system, and it also includes the second presidential cameo this season.

    • Examines the pains of being a bridesmaid in 2023 through a Netflix documentary filter. Quinta, Molly and Bowen are the stand outs.

    • Basically five minutes of white people jokes. A delightful ensemble performance (and Michael Longfellow in body paint for the first time tonight).

    • A sketch that feels lifted right out of a 2010 SNL episode but was apparently written this week! Bowen and Quinta take the awkward moment of not recognizing a person you’ve met before to a very absurd place.

    • Featured players dominated Weekend Update tonight. Marcello Hernandez bonds with Jost over being “petite princes” and talks about the realities of being a short king in a world obsessed with height.

    • For the fourth time this season Michael Longfellow dresses up his dry delivery in elaborate makeup, sticking the landing as Michelangelo’s David after a bunch of fascist fuddy duddy’s in Buttfuck, Florida threw a fit over a picture of the statue being shown in a history class. Longfellow’s David is a self-proclaimed pretty boy, walks the line between art and pornography and makes a Matt Foley joke. And he does it all in body paint. God bless.

best snl episode since the pedro pascal episode right?
