Liam Neeson Thought His ‘View’ Appearance Was “Just a Bit Embarrassing”

If you have a crush on Liam Neeson, it’s best to keep that information to yourself. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Neeson revealed that he was “uncomfortable” during his recent appearance on The View due to Joy Behar‘s flirting: “It’s just a bit embarrassing.”

Neeson appeared on ABC’s popular daytime talk show on Wednesday, February 15th to promote his new film Marlowe.  Initially, he was excited to chat with the women about the film, and the issue of gun violence. “I was in the dressing room drinking a cup of tea, turned the TV up, and I thought, oh, this will be great. They’re talking about gun violence in America, and I agree that it’s an American problem,” he said. “I go onstage and join the ladies during the break, and I was congratulating them on this discussion.”

But once Neeson joined the Behar and her co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, the conversation quickly veered away from heavier topics to lighter fare. That disappointed the actor. “And then our segment starts and it’s just all this BS with Joy and Liam Neeson and having a crush, and I’ve known Whoopi for years and Joy a little bit, but I just wasn’t impressed,” Neeson told Rolling Stone. “I’m uncomfortable in those situations, you know?”

Neeson was referring to Behar’s affection for the Taken star. At the top of Neeson’s interview, Navarro mentioned that Behar talks about Neeson a lot on the show. “Oh, shut up, don’t blow my cover up,” Behar quipped.  Griffin then joked that Behar wanted to be “taken” by Neeson.

The crush jokes kept coming, with Behar expressing disappointment that Neeson sent all the women Valentine’s day cards and not just her. Hostin claimed that Neeson “wrote something very special on mine,” prompting Navarro to ask Neeson to add an extra heart to Behar’s card. The show then played a supercut of Behar talking about Neeson on The View, which included her saying she was “aroused” by the Taken series and joking that she would like her ashes to be sprinkled all over him.

“The segment’s all about this — oof — 13, 14-year-old crush,” Neeson told Rolling Stone. “It’s just a bit embarrassing.”

Neeson’s View experience wasn’t completely embarrassing. He told Rolling Stone that he “had a little chat afterward” with host and prosecutor Sunny Hostin, and the two engaged in what he considered “intelligent conversation.” He also wasn’t the only one who noticed that something might have been off about his View appearance, as Whoopi Goldberg joked that she was “afraid” to invite him back after all the hubub he caused amongst her co-hosts. Maybe next time, Neeson should consider dropping by The View a little further away from Valentine’s Day.
