Making progress! Throughout Janelle Brown’s tenure on TLC’s Sister Wives, viewers have seen her struggle with her weight and diet goals.
During season 3 of her family’s reality TV show, Janelle and her husband Kody Brown’s other spouses — Meri Brown, Christine Brown and Robyn Brown — all hit the gym together after sharing their diet woes.
“I remember when my kids were little, watching the weight creep up, creep up, creep up but I felt so powerless to stop it,” Janelle admitted during an October 2011 episode. “I was mortified [to share my weight with the other wives] because I never told anybody, including Kody, how much I weigh.”
She continued at the time: “You know, my physical appearance has always been my Achilles heel. I mean, I know I’m smart, I know I’m a good employee [and] I know I’m good at everything else, but my physical appearance … to have [my weight] so blatantly broadcast was very disturbing for me.”
After a fitness trainer revealed that Janelle weighed 271 pounds, she worked hard to get in shape and eat balanced meals.
“I understand the weight and frustration of feeling like there is more out there for you, but not knowing where to turn to first,” the Strive With Janelle blogger wrote via a mission statement on her website. “That’s why my mission is simple: give my clients the wellness education, tools and resources that they need to feel happy, healthy, and capable of managing life’s pressures.”
As Janelle has found her stride with her body transformation, she launched her Life With Health & Happiness diet company with her eldest daughter, Madison. (The health coach shares children Madison, Logan, Gabriel, Garrison, Hunter and Savanah with Kody.) While promoting her business, the Becoming Sister Wives author has frequently shared the keys to her meal plan.
“Is balance truly possible during the holidays? I mean with all the delicious comfort food? I believe so,” Kody’s second wife, who he spiritually wed in 1993, wrote via Instagram in November 2021. “If you would have asked me this last year I would have said, no way. But in the last year, I have learned more about why our bodies crave what they crave and why they ‘act’ the way they do. What I love … is the simplicity for one and the fact you don’t have to eat terrible foods, limit calories or starve yourself.”

During season 3, the four My Sisterwife’s Closet founders opened up about their weight insecurities as they took a joint trip at the gym. Janelle called their outing a “horrible, unpleasant” experience though she knew “it was something I had to do.”
Janelle documented her health progress via a YouTube series, which aired alongside the TLC series.
Janelle opened up about how Plexus (“the pink drink”) from her company’s meal plan revolutionized her weight loss journey via Instagram, noting the beverage has helped her ongoing sugar addiction. She added: “I lost a couple of inches off my gut without changing anything.”
“Say goodbye to sugar cravings, exhaustion, anxiety, poor sleep, low energy and so much more,” Janelle gushed about following her Life With Health & Happiness plan via social media.
Janelle explained via Instagram that people frequently asked her about her diet “secret” and what she’s done “differently.”
“It’s very simple. I am taking care of me,” she captioned a selfie at the time. “I have found amazing plant-based supplements that have rocked my world. I don’t have the sugar cravings, brain fog, low energy, poor sleep, or inflammation like I used too. … This isn’t an overnight fad nor a diet pill. This is a lifestyle and let me tell you, it feels amazing!”
“This was the first Halloween I wasn’t obsessed with all the candy. I’m actually looking forward to the ability to be balanced in the upcoming months filled with parties and holiday food,” she shared via Instagram.
“Health isn’t a one size fits all thing, and it may not look the same for everyone, but it is something worth fighting for,” Janelle captioned a social media post with Christine, who announced her separation from Kody one month earlier.
Janelle shared before-and-after photos of her journey via Instagram, writing, “To that one soul reading this today: know your tired, feel your weight won’t budge, can’t sleep, have sugar cravings, you’re fed up and you just don’t feel like YOU anymore. I’m here to remind you there are options out there but you have to be open to trying something new.”
She continued: “Things get better when you try, even if you’ve tried everything before this. This is different, I promise. Don’t stop fighting to live your best life. You’re worth it.”
Just days after news broke that she and Kody had called it quits, Janelle took to social media to give an update about her new favorite exercise.
“A couple of months ago I added Pilates into my workout mix and I’ve been so pleased with how it compliments my other workouts,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories alongside a photo from the gym. “I think I’m addicted to how good I feel after a class.”
