Netflix’s Baby Reindeer is based off Richard Gadd’s own experience of being stalked by an older woman (who is portrayed by Jessica Gunning in the show). Gadd revealed that he had received 41,071 emails, 744 tweets, letters totaling 106 pages and 350 hours of voicemail messages from the woman.
While the names were changed in the show internet sleuths believe they have found the woman in question. (Both Gadd and Gunning have urged viewers not to try to guess the identities of people in Baby Reindeer, with Gadd writing on Instagram, “That’s not the point of the show.”)
The woman was anonymously interviewed by Daily Mail and says she believes Gadd is “bullying an older woman for fame and fortune” and accused him of having “main character syndrome”. She is quoted saying: “He’s using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now. I’m the victim. He’s written a bloody show about me.”
