To the surprise of no one, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with sales of 1.653 million equivalent album units (1.359 million pure). She outsold the original 1989 in pure album sales alone (1.287 million).
This marks the biggest week for any album since Adele’s 25 with 3.482 million units in the week ending Nov. 25, 2015.
It is also Taylor’s biggest first week sales of her career and her 13th no. 1 album.
She also finally outsold Britney Spears’ iconic Oops!…I Did It Again (1.319 million).
Not to mention, Swift had the biggest vinyl sales week in the US of the modern era with 693K.
According to Deadline via Republic Records, the album sold over 3.5 million units globally in its first week.
