Though it didn’t land in theaters until 2018, there were ideas of a new A Star Is Born since the early aughts. What other stars were considered for the role?
-In the early 2000s, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Lopez were considered. Alicia Key’s team thought it was a bad choice for her first movie to be too similar to her life story, and Jennifer Lopez was interested in doing the movie with a Latin flair. By 2012 Beyonce was in talks to star in the movie. Her pregnancy ended that discussion, and newcomer Esperanza Spalding entered the chat. By 2016 the role was considered again for Beyonce, but her asking fee was too high for the studio. Lady Gaga then entered the discussion, and the rest is history.
