Chris Hansen is sharing his thoughts on the movie Primetime, which follows Robert Pattinson playing him during the To Catch a Predator days.
The former Dateline NBC journalist, now 67, has previously said that he wasn’t consulted for the movie and didn’t get to watch it advance because the film studio allegedly requested that he sign a document to see it early. And he didn’t want to sign it.
Hansen went to see the movie on opening night and shared his thoughts on the movie in an interview with Jesse Watters.
“What was in it, in my mind, was something that was so overly dramatized, so detached from reality, as the director put it, a ‘fever dream,’ that almost hit me as something that was so far from reality that it wouldn’t even bother me,” Hansen said.
He continued, “In a way it’s a hit piece on me and the series, which is weird because all we do is expose bad human beings who try to hurt children. So in that respect, it’s an insult to the thousands of men and women who want to do the same thing.”
Chris was not a fan of the movie or Rob‘s performance.
“I think it’s overly dramatic, drawn out, they make him look like a character in a horror film. There’s all kinds of green hue on his face. He’s obviously having a mental breakdown. This version of Chris Hansen, played by Robert Pattinson, was so detached, so unhinged, so dark, so unlikable, I mean it’s upset my colleagues present and former,” he said.
Chris gave Robert a “D” grade for his performance and said he’s the “only guy that counts” when it comes to giving a review.
Chris also called out director Lance Oppenheim.
“He wanted to create a horror-like film with interesting photography and didn’t want to hear anything else,” he said in the YouTube video. “[He] didn’t want to have his mind polluted by anything positive that this actually achieved over the last 22 years.”
“Hollywood wants to demonize the guy doing what I think is very good work that has created a dialogue that didn’t exist before and an awareness that didn’t exist before. And yet they turn him into the bad guy. And so you have to question the motives of not coming forward and talking to me or anybody who I worked closely with over the years. And they didn’t want to hear that Chris Hansen is a good guy. They didn’t want to hear that this work is important,” he added.
