The Trump-loving Georgia congresswoman just got booted from the far-right Freedom Caucus, yet is wielding more power than ever on Capitol Hill. Host Brian Stelter talks with New York Times staff writer Robert Draper about Greene’s political path, from pushing QAnon conspiracies to joining forces with House majority leader Kevin McCarthy (and feuding with Lauren Boebert.) The onetime insurgent is now firmly entrenched in the GOP establishment.
“I hesitate to say, [she has] begun behaving like an adult, because she still espouses extreme positions, particularly as regards to transgender individuals and matters relating to the border,” says Draper. “But at least in terms of how she comports herself within her conference, she’s definitely evolved.”
A veteran political writer, Draper chronicled the GOP’s MAGA shift in last year’s book Weapons of Mass Delusion: When the Republican Party Lost Its Mind. These days, he tells Stelter, “I’ve never seen this level of school-yard taunting and juvenile misbehavior that I’ve seen amongst these Republicans.”
