There’s a big change happening behind the scenes at Dutton Ranch.
The hit Yellowstone spinoff, led by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as fan-favorite couple Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, has found its new showrunner for season 2.
Benjamin Cavell will be the new Dutton Ranch showrunner for season 2
Entertainment Weekly confirms that Benjamin Cavell has been tapped to take over as showrunner and executive producer for the next season of the Paramount+ drama, according to a new report. He replaces season 1 showrunner Chad Feehan, who exited the series before its May premiere.
Benjamin is no stranger to high-stakes television. His credits include creating SEAL Team, working as a writer and producer on Justified, and writing for shows including Homeland and Sneaky Pete.

Dutton Ranch has been hugely successful for Paramount+
The move comes shortly after Dutton Ranch was renewed for season 2 following a massive launch. Paramount+ previously announced that the show drew 12.9 million global viewers in its first week, making it the biggest original series debut in the streamer’s history.
The series follows Beth and Rip as they leave Montana behind and try to build a new life in South Texas, only to face brutal new threats and a rival ranch determined to protect its own empire.

Stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly comment on the show changes
Chad, who remains credited as creator and executive producer on season 1, has not publicly commented on his exit.
Cole previously addressed the behind-the-scenes change, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “Showrunners change all the time. This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.”
Kelly also reflected on finishing the first season in the same interview, saying, “We finished [season one] with Chad beautifully. We finished this season together. It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making.”
She added, “We’re all creative minds and we all work together and I’m so proud of that.”
Season 1 of Dutton Ranch wraps up on Friday, July 3 on Paramount+.
