Queen Camilla‘s visit with J.K. Rowling is stirring up controversy.

The Queen, 78, shared a photo of herself posing with the Harry Potter author, 60, from their recent meeting at Holyroodhouse to support Camilla‘s childhood reading initiatives.

“With a shared passion for books and a deep commitment to children reading for pleasure, The Queen and author J.K. Rowling have met at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh,” the post shared by the official Royal Family X account read. “Her Majesty and Ms Rowling discussed the importance of ensuring that young people have access to books and the vital part reading plays in opening doors for future generations.”

The post was uploaded on Tuesday, June 30, which marks the final day of Pride Month. Many of the comments were negative, as was the overall sentiment toward the meeting. Rowling has a long history of making anti-trans remarks.

Several Harry Potter stars have spoken out in support of transgender causes and the author has publicly criticized them in the past.

In a recent example, she wrote a statement aimed at those who signed an open letter criticizing the U.K.’s Supreme Court ruling declaring trans women are not legally women in an April 2025. Among the signees were Paapa Essiedu, who will play Severus Snape in HBO’s Harry Potter series and other stars from the fictional magic universe like Eddie Redmayne and Katie Leung, among hundreds of other celebs.

“Nobody sane believes, or has ever believed, that humans can change sex, or that binary sex isn’t a material fact. These letters do nothing but remind us of what we know only too well: that pretending to believe these things has become an elitist badge of virtue,” Rowling wrote as part of a lengthy statement shared on X in response to the open letter at the time.

Other stars like Nicola Coughlan, David Tennant, Pedro Pascal, and more have criticized Rowling for her views.
