Alana Haim is dishing on the custom tees she made for the Knicks game this week!
The 34-year-old musician and actress wore a “Knickole Kidman” shirt, while her sister Este wore a “Knickleback” tee and BFF Taylor Swift wore a “Stevie Knicks” shirt to the game four of the NBA finals.
Mariska Hargitay and Sombr also got the same shirt as Taylor!
In a new interview, Alana revealed how the shirts came to be and the text from Taylor that started it all.
“I love making shirts for my friends; I have my friends come over all the time, and I’m like, ‘Do you want to make shirts?’ It’s my creative outlet. I can’t paint. I wish I could paint, but I can’t. But I figured out how to screen print, and I have like a little setup at home,” Alana dished to Vogue. “I have a Cricut, which is this precision vinyl and paper-cutting printer. It’s hard to explain what a Cricut is. A lot of DIY people online love the Cricut, which is why I got it, and I cut the vinyl out, put it on a screen, and you buy some screen-printing paint, and you squeegee it on. I’ve been wanting to try out this puffy additive for a very long time, and I got to use a puff-paste effect on these shirts, which was really fun.”
The name puns came thanks to a text from Taylor!

I got a text from Taylor that was really the text that you want to get as an amateur screen printer [Laughs.] She said, “I want to wear this shirt to the game, can you make it for me?” and I was like, “I thought you would never ask, this is my dream.” Whenever I start out a session with a friend, I go: “Let’s talk about puns, let’s talk about sizing,” and [Swift] came up with Stevie Knicks. We were kind of going back and forth with these puns; we really just wanted to have fun, because we were so excited that we were going to the game, and I thought it would make people laugh, so we put them on shirts and all decided to wear them.
Mariska famously ran to the game after finishing her Broadway show, Every Brilliant Thing, and she also ended up wearing a shirt too. So, was that planned? Alana says she “always brings extras”!
“Taylor really wanted to bring extras so we could give them to friends. And Mariska was so down; she’s such an amazing human being, and I’m such a big fan of her, so the fact that she also wanted to wear one of my shirts was insane,” the singer explained. “It really bonded us all together. I’ve never hugged someone more than at that game. It was such an incredible game, so I was really happy that we had brought extras.”
