Katie Holmes is opening up about reuniting with Joshua Jackson nearly 25 years after they last shared screen.
The former Dawson’s Creek co-stars star together in Happy Hours, Katie‘s new romantic dramedy that premieres at the Tribeca Festival on June 6. The project marks their first on-screen collaboration since the beloved teen drama ended in 2003.
“We hadn’t worked together in 25 years, and we’ve changed a lot,” she told Variety ahead of the film’s debut.
Katie admitted she was surprised by the public reaction when photos of the pair filming in New York surfaced last year.
“To be honest, it was unexpected,” she said. “I know we were on a show that a lot of people watched, but I guess we never fully realized the impact. It still kind of throws all of us.”
In Happy Hours, Katie and Joshua play Liz and Andrew, two former teenage sweethearts reconnecting later in life. Katie also wrote and directed the film.
While the pair wanted to work together again, Katie said they were careful not to approach the project as a continuation of Joey and Pacey’s story.
“We also wanted to give ourselves the space to show different sides of ourselves and to not portray these people we’re known for,” she explained.
Even so, Katie revealed their longtime connection quickly returned on set, describing a creative “shorthand” that still exists between them.
Earlier this year, Katie liked an interesting comment that attracted a lot of attention from fans!
