Japanese horror author Kōji Suzuki passed away at the age of 68 on Friday. He was often credited with launching the J-horror boom in the west.

He is most known for writing the novel ‘Ring’ which was adapted into the Japanese film of the same name (also known as ‘Ringu’) and later remade as ‘The Ring’ in America. His shost story “Floating Water” also inspired the Japanese film ‘Dark Water’ in 2002, and that film received an American remake in 2005.
