Social media users in Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong and elsewhere have reacted negatively to Jin Chao, played by Helen J. Shen, a character in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ saying the character plays into old racial stereotypes (such as being an extreme academic high achiever) of Asian people and that her name is reminiscent of a racial slur. Some, including Korean-American filmmaker Joseph Kahn, have argued that the character is a caricature of Gen Z instead.
