The Super Mario Galaxy movie retained its chokehold on the box office, bringing in another $35 million for a total of $355.2 million in North America and $747.5 million worldwide in its third weekend of release. The film, already the highest grossing of the year, seems likely to hit $1 billion at the global box office.
Project Hail Mary held on to second place at the box office with $20.5 million in its fifth weekend. Domestically, it’s made $285 million so far.
In third place was newcomer Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, which dragged in $13.5 million in its first weekend of release on a $22 million budget.
The Drama stayed in the top five with a $4.8 million take in its third weekend of release. It has made $39.7 million, and is the first of three films this year co-starring Zendaya and RPattz.
Rounding out the top five was You, Me and Tuscany with $3.8 million in its second weekend. It’s made a total of $14.4 million domestic.
In smaller new release news, A24’s Mother Mary premiered to $168k from just five theaters, averaging nearly $34k per theater. The Bob Odenkirk starring Normal opened wide in over 2k theaters, and made $2.5 million.
