Kim Plath hasn’t been seeing eye to eye with daughter Lydia Plath since her divorce from Barry Plath, but their upcoming Welcome to Plathville heart-to-heart might change that.
“Whenever I talked to you, I just felt like there was — I was talking to a brick wall,” Lydia, 22, confesses to her mom, 53, in Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek of the Tuesday, April 14, episode of the TLC series.
Kim — who was married to Barry, 58, for 24 years before their 2022 split — reveals she felt uneasy with Lydia once she announced she was leaving her father.
“I felt that you were judging me and, like, not accepting where I was in life,” Kim confesses as her daughter cuts her hair in the clip.

Kim later tells the cameras that it “hurts to hear” Lydia’s remarks about her alleged demeanor during her yearslong divorce, which was finalized in 2025.
“I certainly never intended to be like a brick wall,” Kim says in a confessional. “So I’m making an effort towards chatting about things on a deeper level.”
Kim proceeds to open up to Lydia, telling her that the “hardest thing” about walking away from her marriage was “knowing that it was hurting all of you kids.” (Kim shares nine children with Barry. The exes’ 10th child, son Joshua, died in 2008 at 17 months following an accident on their farm.)
“That was the last thing I wanted. And I’m sorry that that happened,” Kim explains to Lydia. “I mean, it definitely would have been easier if he had been the one to leave, you know?”
Lydia is visibly emotional when she does her own confessional, reflecting on her initial feelings toward Kim and her choice to move on from Barry.
In a flashback clip, fans are reminded that Lydia criticized Kim when she first started dating again after her split. “I can’t support this,” Lydia previously told her mother when she revealed she was seeing now-boyfriend Ken.
“The last thing I ever wanted for it to come across was that I was judging my mom,” Lydia tells the cameras in Us’ sneak peek at this week’s episode. “I think there’s definitely part of me that was hurt, but deep down this, you know, was never my intention.”
Lydia also manages to tell her mom how her perspective has changed since the divorce bombshell was first dropped.
“That’s understandable now, seeing that everything you were going through that you were the one that left. You had to do it. [It was] what you had to do,” Lydia tells Kim as she sits quietly in a chair getting her hair brushed.
Lydia admits, “There were definitely repercussions from that, but it’s something that we can all grow from.”
Welcome to Plathville airs on TLC Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
