In a recent Forbes interview about his career, Usher reflected on being sent to live in New York with Sean “Diddy” Combs in 1994, calling him a “legend” and speaking positively about his personal experience with the record executive.
He acknowledged the controversy around Diddy and said: “I don’t have anything negative to say about Sean Combs because my experience was not what the world has seen and how he’s been, you know, misrepresented. I’m not saying that every man is perfect. I’m not saying that all of us don’t have flaws, but I can’t with any sense of humanity not recognize the valuable contributions that this man made for us as Black entrepreneurs, for us as businessmen, for us as people who transition, you know, culture and ideas into something that’s tangible and becomes business. So many people benefited from what he created, and I acknowledge that, and that’s why I see him as legacy.”
Diddy is currently in federal custody awaiting trial on charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution, all of which he has denied. Meanwhile, Justin Bieber reportedly had a heated exchange with Usher at Beyoncé’s Oscars after-party. Some fans believe the argument could’ve somehow been linked to Diddy or, even darker, alleged abuse Justin suffered under Usher, though there is currently no confirmed link or credible evidence explaining what the argument was about.
