James was taken into custody in Brazos County, Tex., and released on a $10,0000 surety bond, which is a “legally-binding contract between three people, guaranteeing that the principal will fulfill the contract obligations to the obligee.”
The arrest stems from a 2024 incident, where he was taken into custody on warrants, and was booked for assault causing bodily injury and unlawful restraint.
According to Complex, James was accused of kissing, groping, and throwing a 19-year-old college student in 2024, and he plead guilty to the charges in April 2025. Then, he was sentenced to 18 months of probation, 80 hours of community service, a $750 fine, $350 in court costs, anger management classes and was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
James‘ probation was reportedly ended last month, over issues of nonpayment of fines, leading to a warrant being issued.
Court records show he still owes $300 out of the $1,184, and he made a recently made a payment of $80 two days before his arrest.
In 2024, he told Page Six, “I would never hurt anybody. I’m nice to every person I meet.”
James also told local Texas news outlet KBTX3, “I would never hurt anybody. I’m nice to every person I meet. That’s my statement. Now go ahead and trash my life because you hate my political stances or for the views you’ll get on TikTok.”
The Bachelorette‘s latest season was originally supposed to premiere on Sunday (March 22), with new leading lady Taylor Frankie Paul, but was canceled after a new video surfaced related to a previous arrest, and amid a more recent ongoing domestic assault investigation.
