The Kansas City Chiefs are prepared for a future without Travis Kelce.

Travis Kelce could announce his retirement

The 36-year-old sports star – who is engaged to pop singer Taylor Swift – is contemplating his future following the end of the NFL season, but Brett Veach, the Kansas City Chiefs’ general manager, insists the team are prepared for whatever decision Travis takes.

Speaking at a press conference, Brett explained: “I think we’ve kind of taken a different approach with Travis in the sense that I think we’ve kind of prepared for either scenario.”

Brett explained that Andy Reid, the team’s head coach, has also held talks with Travis about his future.

He said: “Coach had mentioned on Friday that he’s had great dialogue with Travis on our end, myself, Chris Shea, Travis’ crew, we’ve had some good dialogue there — and I’m sure we’re going to see him here just like we will all the other players’ agents and we’ll continue that dialogue.”

Brett is hopeful that Travis will ultimately opt to re-sign with the Chiefs.

He shared: “Travis is the best, he’s an icon, hopefully he comes back and we’ll just kind of let that process play out.”

Meanwhile, Jason Kelce, Travis’ brother, recently urged his sibling to “step away from the game for a little bit” before making a decision about his future.

The former sports star encouraged his sibling to take his time before making a firm decision.

Jason – who also enjoyed a hugely successful career in the NFL, before announcing his retirement in 2024 – said on Monday Night Football: “I’m curious too.

“In my opinion, to nail that decision, you’ve got to step away from the game for a little bit.”

Jason also encouraged his sibling to enjoy his last games of the season, before making a decision about his future.

He said: “Play these last three games, enjoy them with your teammates, enjoy that with your coaches. The team’s going to be different whether you come back or not next year. So, enjoy these last three games and then let it sink in. It’ll come to you with time.”
