Team USA luger Sophia Kirkby put out a call via Instagram for a Valentine’s Day date and, predictably, men slid into her DMs faster than she could slide down the track at the Winter Olympics.
Kirkby, 24, shared some of the results in an Instagram video posted on Monday, February 9.
“DM review: boys edition,” she captioned the post.
“Sophia you are a amazing, wonderful and Lovely Dreamwoman ❤️🌹😘,” the first direct message read.
“Hi Sophia! Heard you are looking for a valentines date?” the second one said.
“I mean, I am,” Kirkby responded teasingly.
Another suitor replied to one of her stories in which she showed off the handmade pins that she and other Olympians have made in the longstanding Olympic pin trading tradition.
“You could give one as a gift to the DJ at the sliding center 😉,” he wrote.
“Oh my god, the DJ at our Olympic venue wants me to give him a pin,” Kirkby replied. “Should I give him my pin?” (The comments section seemed in agreement that she should.)
Kirkby and her luge partner, Chevonne Forgan, make up the first-ever American women’s doubles team to compete at the Winter Olympics. She unlocked the throng of thirst in her DMs by chronicling her search for love at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Instagram.
“The Olympics officially kick off this Friday, and I’ll be in Cortina,” she wrote on February 1 alongside a selfie in which she wore Team USA gear head-to-toe. “Also… yes, I’m single. Athlete Village’s Most Eligible Bachelorette season has officially begun.”
She continued, “I finish racing on the 12th and I’m looking for a Valentine’s Date. I’m not just looking to the other Olympians to grab a cappuccino. I’ll have my dating profiles activated and I’m open to grabbing a coffee with you the fans. See you in Cortina. ☕️”
Kirkby hasn’t stopped there, posting multiple times since about her search for love. She even posted a video from the Opening Ceremony on Friday, February 6, where she pointed to the horde of athletes behind her as the text, “My Valentine might be in this line somewhere.”
“I had the best time walking in the Opening Ceremony. Seeing everyone dressed up and soaking it all in was unreal,” she wrote in the caption. “Now the only question is… did I just walk with my future Valentine? 🌹☕️”
The next day, Kirkby brought brand partner Xfinity in on the fun, posting a video with the brand where she pitched herself as the Olympic Village’s Most Eligible Bachelorette.
“Hey gentlemen, this is your opportunity to go on a date with an Olympian,” she said in the video. “My name is Sophia Kirkby and I will be competing in Cortina, Italy for women’s doubles luge. My event will be done on February 12, right before Valentine’s Day. I will have my dating platforms up and running. We can grab a cappuccino, maybe an Aperol Spritz.”
Kirkby also shared what she is looking for in her ideal date, saying he would have to be “about yea tall,” as she held her hand high above her own head.
“He would be so nice and he would have to be strong enough to sweep me off my feet,” Kirkby added.
