Ayo Edebiri, Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, India Amarteifio, and Toheeb Jimoh – all of the Nigerian actors (and one Ghanaian) are set to star in Arie and Chuko Esiri’s upcoming film, ‘Clarissa.’
‘Clarissa’ is a modern reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s novel ‘Mrs. Dalloway.’
By all accounts the film has been shot (wonder if that’s why Ayo was in Nigeria over xmas). Neon will handle its U.S. release, with Neon International repping it for foreign sales.
Clarissa follows society woman Clarissa (Okonedo) as she prepares to host a party at her home in Lagos, Nigeria, where she will unexpectedly encounter once-intimate friends from her youth. As the group reflects on their shared past over the course of a single night, memories of their intricate relationships, passionate love, hidden desires, and lost aspirations give rise to bittersweet reckoning.
It is worth noting that the filmmakers’ previous film, ‘Eyimofe‘ was released in 2021 is now part of the Criterion Collection. ‘Clarissa’ will be one to watch out for in the indie awards circut.
