Avatar: Fire and Ash spent five weekends at the top of the box office, but this weekend’s new release Mercy managed to knock it out of the top spot with an $11.2 million opening. The weekend’s takes overall for every film will be lower than a usual January weekend due to the winter storm blanketing much of the country, but Mercy received a 20% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a B- Cinemascore, so it will have to do some work to recoup its $60 million production budget.

Avatar: Fire and Ash fell to second place this weekend with a $7 million haul in its sixth weekend of release. It has now made $378 million domestically and $1.378 billion globally.

Zootopia 2 is still holding strong in its ninth weekend of release with a $5.7 million haul. It has made $401 million domestically and $1.744 billion globally since its Thanksgiving release.

The Housemaid and 28 Days Later: The Bone Temple rounded out the top five releases, bringing in $4.2 and $3.6 million, respectively. The Bone Temple had a precipitous 71% drop from its opening weekend, not a good indicator for future legs.

Marty Supreme came in just behind The Bone Temple, bringing its total domestic gross to $86 million. And behind Marty was the other new release of the weekend Return to Silent Hill, which garnered $3.2 million in box office receipts.
