Former Olympian and mom of two Shawn Johnson is the latest celebrity to join the viral “younger self” trend—and her post is melting hearts.
Johnson shared an Instagram post featuring a side-by-side comparison of herself as a child and her daughter, Drew Hazel. She followed it up with an especially touching image: a photo of her younger self hugging Drew at the same age.
“Brb crying because my younger self got to hug my baby,” Johnson wrote in the caption.
Though the post went live just four hours earlier on January 12, fans were quick to flood the comments section, many pointing out the striking resemblance between mother and daughter.
“She’s your absolute twin!” one follower wrote, while another added, “Wow, the resemblance is wild!”
Others kept it simple, summing up the moment perfectly: “Absolutely adorable.”
In 2019, Shawn and her husband, Andrew East, welcomed Drew Hazel into, before they expanded their family two years later with the arrival of their son, Jett James, in 2021. Most recently, they welcomed their third child—a baby boy named Barrett Madison—in December 2023.
The couple announced to fans they were pregnant with Drew in April 2019 with a YouTube video.
At the time, Shawn also shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo of herself and Andrew pointing at her growing belly. “@theeastbaby … we cannot WAIT to welcome you to the world and shower you with love. @andrewdeast WE DID IT!” she wrote.
Six months later, she was born on Oct. 29, 2019. Drew weighed 8 lbs., 8 oz. and measured 20.5 inches long at birth.
In an Instagram post announcing her arrival, Shawn revealed that Drew’s name is a sweet tribute to Andrew. “Named after the most incredible person I know … her daddy,” she captioned a photo of the couple kissing their newborn
During a family vacation to Greece in July 2023, Shawn revealed she was expecting once again, sharing a series of adorable baby bump photos on Instagram.
At the time, she said both Drew and Jett were thrilled about welcoming another sibling. “Drew is very, very excited—she talks about it daily or kisses my belly daily or something. It’s adorable,” Shawn told PEOPLE.
Shawn and Andrew later announced the arrival of their third child, who was born via cesarean section in December 2023. Reflecting on the experience, Shawn shared her emotions in her personal newsletter.
“The third time around feels so surreal because even though we’ve done this twice before, there’s still so much nervousness and excitement in the days leading up to the birth—and then so much magic once you get to hold your sweet baby in your arms for the first time,” she wrote at the time.
They welcomed their third child on December 12 2023. “Barrett “Bear” Madison East… @bearmadisoneast. We’ve all been waiting for you,” Shawn wrote.
