Jamie Lee Curtis visited The Drew Barrymore Show and told Barrymore how her romance began with her husband Christopher Guest.

Reflecting on how it all began, Curtis recalled, “it was April of 1984. I was sitting on a couch with my friend Deborah Hill who wrote and produced Halloween. We were looking at Rolling Stone and this was the issue with Cindy Lauper on the cover with her skirt going one way and her body on the other. I opened the magazine and there was a picture of three men.”

She continued, “The man on the end caught my eye. I turned to Deborah and thought, ‘Oh, Huh, interesting… I’m going to marry that guy.’ She asked, ‘Who?’ I said, ‘That one right there.’ She went, ‘Oh yeah, he’s an actor. I tried to put him in your movie—he’s with your agents.’ I called his agent and left my number, and Chris didn’t call me right away.”

The magical story didn’t end there. Two months later, she picked up Melanie Griffith and Griffith’s then-husband, Steven Bauer, and went to a restaurant called Hugo’s on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Curtis says, “And Chris was sitting two tables away facing me. When we got up to leave he shrugged his shoulders and waved bye, and then I shrugged my shoulders and he left—but then he called me the next day. That day was June 28, 1984. We went out on July 2nd. We got engaged September 13 and married on December 18 that year.”

Curtis celebrated 41 years of marriage with Guest on December 18 with an adorable social media post. She shared a photo of their shadows holding hands on Instagram, captioning it simply, “41 ❤️.”

After tying the knot, the couple adopted their daughter Annie in 1986 and later welcomed their youngest daughter, Ruby, who was nine when they brought her home in 2005.

In 2021, Ruby came out as transgender. Curtis spoke out, saying, “I will fight and defend her right to exist to anyone who claims that she doesn’t.”

The couple appeared in public together on December 9 for the premiere of Curtis’ new movie Ella McCay.
