Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, has been arrested in Los Angeles County following the deaths of his parents, according to online jail records.
The Los Angeles Police Department has not formally announced an arrest. However, public jail records show that Nick Reiner was taken into custody late Sunday and booked into jail early Monday. He is currently being held on $4 million bail. As of now, authorities have not released information about specific criminal charges.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead at their California home on Sunday. Police have described the case as an apparent homicide. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not shared additional details.
Nick Reiner has previously spoken publicly about his struggles with drug addiction and periods of homelessness, years before his parents’ deaths.
Nick Reiner’s Past Struggles With Addiction
In a 2016 interview with People, Nick described living on the streets and the risks that came with it.
“When I was out there, I could’ve died,” he told People. “It’s all luck. You roll the dice and you hope you make it.”
He also reflected on how those experiences shaped him.
“That made me who I am now, having to deal with that stuff,” he said. “I met crazy great people there, so out of my element. Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family. But there was a lot of dark years there.”
Nick said his struggles began in his early teens and included repeated stays in rehab and stretches of homelessness in multiple states.

Working With His Father on ‘Being Charlie’
Nick later collaborated with his father on the 2015 film Being Charlie, which was loosely inspired by his early life. Rob Reiner directed the film, while Nick co-wrote the screenplay with Matt Elisofon, whom he met in rehab.
Although the film was fictional, Rob said working together strengthened their relationship.
“It definitely brought us closer together,” Mr. Reiner said.
Nick also addressed his childhood relationship with his father while promoting the film.
“We didn’t bond a lot,” he said, adding that the project made him “feel closer to him.”
At the time of the movie’s release, Nick said he had been sober and living in Los Angeles.
Recent Public Appearance
Nick Reiner’s most recent public appearance with his father was in September, when the two attended the premiere of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues together.
As of Monday, Nick Reiner remains in custody in Los Angeles County. Authorities have not released further information regarding charges or the ongoing investigation into the deaths of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner.
