The Miss Universe contest took a concerning turn this week as a contestant was rushed to the hospital after a sudden accident.
On November 19, Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry took a major fall during her walk for the preliminary evening gown category of the competition.
Video footage shows Henry, wearing a bedazzled orange dress with a flowing cape as she walks down the runway, posing for judges before turning around.
Then, as she begins to walk back to leave the stage, she takes a step too far over the edge and her entire body falls to the ground.
After people rushed to help her, Henry was eventually taken away to the hospital on a stretcher.
“She did amazing! I’m hoping she’s okay for finals,” one viewer commented on the video.
“She was rushed to the Paolo Rangsit Hospital, where medical professionals are attending to her care and have advised that she is not suffering from any life-threatening injuries; however, they continue to conduct tests to ensure her full recovery,” the Miss Universe Jamaica Organization said in a statement posted to Instagram.
“We kindly ask everyone to stay upbeat, lift her in prayer, and send positive thoughts as she receives the necessary medical care. We thank everyone for their outpouring of love, support, and continued prayers,” the statement continued.
Miss Universe Organization President Raúl Rocha also shared an update on his Instagram later that same night, saying, “I would like to share with the Miss Universe family that are concerned for the health of our Miss Universe Jamaica that at 12:00 a.m. Bangkok time, that I have just left the hospital where she is being treated.”
He continued, “I was there with her family and her, and thankfully, there are no broken bones and she is under good care. She will remain under observation for the rest of the night and we will remain in touch with her family to support her. Our prayers go out for her prompt recovery.”
The Miss Universe finals will take place in Thailand on November 25, which the community hopes Henry will recover in time to still attend.
