TikTok influencer Mikayla Nogueira may be known for her dramatic makeup looks, but this time, it’s her hair that’s getting all the attention.
On November 16, Nogueira posted a video in classic “get ready with me” style, with a bit of a twist.
Nogueira started the video straight to the point: “Get ready with me to cut all my hair off and dye it black!” she said, staring into the camera.
In the video, she sported long, highlighted caramel brown locks to start.
“I know that everyone is judging me through the screen right now. You, let me do what I need to do!” Nogueira continued in the video.
“There are two reasons why this is happening: number one, I am mentally ill,” she explained. “I mean, I think that goes without saying. I have not been doing well, okay? I’m not doing well. The part two to that is I don’t feel like myself lately and this hair is not helping.”
Nogueira’s fans were especially caught off guard by this announcement, because she had previously said that her caramel highlights were her first step to eventually going fully blonde when she got them done back in August.
This prompted comments from fans like “NO I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING BLONDE,” followed by a crying emoji.
However, other fans understood where Nogueira was coming from with her hair struggles.
“The love hate relationship you have with your hair…. I feel you girl,” one fan commented on the video.
After posting her makeup look in preparation for her trip to the salon, she then posted a transition video of her revealing the new look the next day.
In the video, Nogueira lip-synced to “Look What You Made Me Do” by Taylor Swift as she cut off a chunk of her hair before revealing a short, black bob in the next clip.
In the comments, she received mixed reactions from fans. Some left comments comparing her look to Kris Jenner and Edna Mode from The Incredibles, while others posted old pictures of her from when she started her channel and had short, black hair, saying that she was simply going back to her roots.
After posting some fun transition videos, Nogueira posted a TikTok talking about the details behind the decision for her new ‘do.
“I think it’s safe to say I shocked the internet with my new hair,” she said. “I literally do not even recognize myself. It’s gonna take a lot to get used to this.”
Nogueira then explained that she loves the fact that the haircut shows off her piercings more, and the dark color brings out her eyes. She also explained that she loves the convenience of only spending five minutes styling her hair.
“Do I think this ages me? Yeah, of course,” the influencer admitted. “Anyone that gets a haircut like this, it ages you, okay? I’m Kris Jenner at 27. But I wanted to give my hair a break from the length, and I haven’t done a chop like this in maybe two, three years, and I’ve never gone this short.”
“All the beauty standards and the pressure have 1,000% gotten to me, and I’m trying to get myself out of that,” she continued. “Like, just imagine thousands and thousands of people a day telling you what you should and should not do to your face. It’s not healthy.”
“So now I’m gonna do what the f*** I wanna do to my face,” she concluded. “And if you feel like beauty standards are constantly being shoved down your throat, I encourage you to do the same.”
