Lucien Laviscount teased that Emily in Paris season 5 is going to be pretty unexpected.

“I don’t want to give away too much, but one thing I will say is … when I got episode 1 emailed over with their high-tech security … it took me about two or three days to kind of process,” Laviscount exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of Emily in Paris’ season 5 premiere while promoting his partnership with Sheba 4am Sleep Stories. “So much happens in the first episode that sets up the rest of the season. And it was definitely a curveball for me and for Alfie.”

In the past few seasons, Emily (Lily Collins) has been in a love triangle with Alfie (Laviscount) and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). After Emily chose Gabriel, Alfie moved on with a new love interest. Emily and Gabriel later broke up when he abandoned her on a ski slope, where she met Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), who is from Italy. Season 4 ended with Emily relocating from Paris to helm the new Agence Grateau office in Rome and date Marcello.

While it seemed Alfie might not be in the running for Emily’s heart in season 5, Laviscount teased that his character is “definitely in the mix.”

Lucas Bravo‘s criticism about his character Gabriel’s story on Emily in Paris has made viewers question the show’s plans for him in season 5. The Netflix series, which debuted in 2020, originally centered around Emily’s (Lily Collins) move from the U.S. to France, and the challenges that came with that. “This season just gets flipped on its head in a different way, but it’s in the Emily in Paris universe,” he explained. “It’s beautiful and glossy, and, yes, it’s just that great escape.”

Laviscount added that viewers have seen Emily “do the jealous thing” in the past.

“It’d be interesting to see if she did get a bit jealous this season, and who she was jealous about,” he mused. “Regarding Alfie’s new love interest that kind of pops up in season 4, I can’t say anything. This is the worst thing about it, but … there’s love in the cards for Alfie, I think, this season.”

Laviscount joined the Emily in Paris cast in season 2 and gushed about the “whirlwind” experience.

“I’m really grateful that the writers have kind of not just kept me around but allowed Alfie to grow and experience new things,” he told Us. “I think that he’s definitely continuing to grow as well. I think that that’s what’s beautiful about Alfie and … it’s kind of a nice representation of what masculinity kind of stands for. I think it’s growth, it’s forever changing and learning. I think he learns from his mistakes. Alfie stands on his word. He’s honest, sometimes too honest. I think he just should buckle down and not let things get in his way. But he speaks his mind, which is something that I really admire about him.”

As fans wait for Emily in Paris season 5 to premiere on Netflix on December 18, they can catch Laviscount reading a calming, feline-centric bedtime story in his partnership with Sheba. Laviscount was inspired to join the project as a cat dad himself.

“It just made so much sense, I’ll be honest. It’s like storytelling,” he shared. “And I’ve got my two babies, Simba and Nala.”

Laviscount added that Sheba is his go-to food choice for his kitties and loved the idea of reading a bedtime story specifically for furry friends.

“This is something that helps you bond with your cat at that time in a positive way,” he said. “These beautiful literary stories that you can make yourself around your cat to kind of help you get back to sleep. It’s just magic.”
