Emily may have traded croissants for cappuccinos, but one familiar face seems to be missing from her new Italian adventure — and fans have questions.
After Netflix dropped the first full trailer for Emily in Paris season 5, viewers immediately noticed one glaring omission: Lucas Bravo’s character, Gabriel, the charming chef who has been at the center of Emily’s love life since season one. While Lily Collins’ Emily is shown settling into her new life in Rome, Gabriel is nowhere to be found — and Lucas isn’t giving anything away.
“I would love to tell you something,” Lucas told E! News in an October 2025 interview, before choosing to keep things mysterious. “I like the fact that I’m not in the trailer and that it creates a conversation, and I’m gonna keep the conversation running. I won’t say anything.”
The 37-year-old actor, who previously made headlines for admitting he was unsure about returning to the show because playing Gabriel was “not fun” anymore, refused to confirm or deny whether his absence from the trailer meant Gabriel is gone for good.
“I don’t know,” he teased. “I’m not in it.”
Season 5 of Emily in Paris, premiering December 18, follows Emily’s adventures as she relocates to Italy. The new season features returning stars Ashley Park (Mindy), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie) and Eugenio Franceschini (Marcello). Still, many fans are left wondering whether the show can feel the same without its beloved French chef.
Adding to the intrigue, Netflix’s promotional photos for the upcoming season did include a glimpse of Lucas as Gabriel — suggesting he hasn’t disappeared entirely. And just a few months ago, the Ticket to Paradise actor was spotted cozying up to ex-girlfriend Shailene Woodley while filming a romantic comedy, before the pair split one month later.
For now, Lucas seems content to keep his Emily in Paris fate under wraps while focusing on new creative projects. The French actor recently opened up about his upcoming HBO Max drama The Seduction, a French-language adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
“I had the opportunity to completely start from scratch and added a little bit of paint to something that’s been so established and well known for years,” he said in a joint interview with co-star Vincent Lacoste. “So it was exciting to rewrite something that is already a classic, and to explore a character that is completely—I can judge him because I’m not portraying him anymore—insane.”
