Fans of Netflix’s Wayward are already asking the big question: will there be a second season? The Canadian mystery thriller starring Toni Collette and Mae Martin has captivated viewers with its Twin Peaks–esque small-town secrets and dark twists, leaving audiences desperate for more.
Has Season 2 Been Confirmed?
At the time of writing, Netflix has not renewed Wayward for a second season. The show was released as a limited series, with eight episodes intended to wrap up the story. However, both fans and creators seem eager to continue exploring the twisted world of Tall Pines.
Since its premiere on September 25, 2025, Wayward has surged in popularity, hitting the number one spot on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list in its first week with 8.2 million views. The success makes it clear that audiences are hungry for more.
What Have the Creators Said?
Martin, who serves as creator, co-showrunner, executive producer, writer, and star, has hinted that the story could continue. Speaking to TV Insider, Martin said, “hopefully [everything is] tied up enough that it’s satisfying to watch as a series,” while adding, “I was told it was a miniseries, but there’s definitely more story to tell, I think. We left all those characters in crisis, basically.”
Toni Collette echoed that enthusiasm, noting that the cast finds Tall Pines “endlessly intriguing” and there are “so many places it could go, for sure.” Alyvia Alyn Lind, who plays Leila, told Decider she “would love to come back” and that the cast is “ready.”
In a Variety interview, Martin also addressed the challenge of continuing the story beyond the intended single season: “I’ve been doing so much press, and I’m so interested in people’s reactions to the ending. It seems like people have an appetite for more,” they said. “Hopefully, it works as a mini-series, but then it’s also obviously fun to imagine what would happen.”

What Could Season 2 Be About?
If Wayward returns, Martin revealed plans to “dig deeper” into supporting characters’ storylines while exploring the aftermath of season 1’s dramatic events. That includes Evelyn’s uncertain fate, Abbie’s escape, Rory’s sacrifice, Alex’s future, and Laura’s next moves.
Martin also teased Evelyn’s ambiguous condition: “I don’t think [she’s dead],” they told Variety. “I think she’s a vegetable and, yeah, I’d be curious to see if she could ever come out of it, but she’s definitely a vegetable.” Meanwhile, Brandon Jay McLaren’s character, Dwyane, would likely not return due to his character’s death.
