Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens is entering his fifth season in the NFL, but his wife, 23-time gold medal gymnast Simone Biles, is still celebrating him making the team.
Biles, 28, shared a pair of photos on Tuesday, August 26, via her Instagram Story, showing how she went all-out for her husband of two years.
In the first photo, Biles showed an arrangement of blue and white balloons with two football balloons at the top. “Go 36, so so so proud of you,” she wrote over pic, referring to Owens’ jersey number.
In the second, she showed off an assortment of chocolate and red velvet cupcakes. Decorative footballs and foam finger No. 1s stuck out from each treat.
“We celebrate everything in this household okaaaayyy,” she wrote over the photo. “The little things & the big ones.”
The celebration should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following Biles and Owens’ relationship. The Olympian has long been Owens’ biggest cheerleader, most recently breaking out a custom T-shirt emblazoned with his name, which she wore to the Bears’ preseason opener earlier in August.
She is a frequent presence at Bears games, often seen on the field beforehand wishing Owens luck. For the Bears’ post-Christmas game against the Seattle Seahawks game last season, she even wore a sweatsuit with photos of Owens plastered all over it.
And the support works both ways. The Bears gave Owens permission last year to miss part of training camp so he could watch Biles compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Before heading out, he told Us Weekly about how he supports her in competition.
“It is not much motivation you need to do, just because you don’t want to put extra, added pressure on anyone,” Owens exclusively told Us. “I just tell her, ‘Go do your thing, baby.’… As long as she’s there, she’s on the field, give her a kiss and we can go about our way.”
“You get a different type of focus whenever you just have this one person that you’re focusing on,” he continued. “And I ain’t saying there’s something wrong with being single, but for me, knowing myself, I’ve played a lot better since [meeting Simone], I’ve just been focused and locked in, and you come home, talk about my day and play with the dogs, you know what I mean? That’s just kind of, like, our thing.”
The Bears will open the 2025 NFL season on Monday, September 8, at home against the Minnesota Vikings.
