-For Étoile, the decision not to proceed with the second season under the two-year pickup came down largely to performance vs. cost since the show was filmed in both New York and Paris, and hasn’t brought in the desired number of viewers.
-The series was ordered under previous studio head Jennifer Salke, who left in March.
-The appeal of the show may have been too limited to fans of Amy Sherman-Palladino and ballet fans, failing to attract a broader audience. (As someone who’s a fan of both Mrs. Maisel/Gilmore Girls AND ballet, it wasn’t that. The show was literally just white people yelling at each other with some dancing. it just wasn’t good story-wise imo.)
-Étoile was released as a binge on Prime Video on April 24. It lost its No.1 spot on Prime Video’s own Top 10 after about a week to Reacher, which hadn’t released new episodes since March.
-Étoile quickly dropped out of the Prime Video Top 10 altogether, whereas other shows like The Wheel of Time (also recently canceled) were still there nearly two months after their latest season ended.
