The company that makes Oreo, Wheat Thins and others, says Aldi has been copying its packaging in an effort to trick customers into buying the supermarket chain’s store brand products.
In a federal lawsuit Mondelez International alleges that the store “blatantly copies” the packaging of its brands in order to make customers think they are buying one of the company’s products; such as Oreo, Chips Ahoy, Wheat Thins, when they are really purchasing the store-brand’s version. The company is seeking damages and to prevent the German grocery store chain from selling all of the products they claim infringe on its trademarks.
