Joshua Jackson shared a surprisingly sweet update about his bond with Dawson’s Creek costar and ex-girlfriend Katie Holmes more than 25 years after their breakup.
The Doctor Odyssey star, 46, stopped by Jesse Ferguson’s “Dinner’s on Me” podcast on Tuesday, April 22, and shared how he and his Dawson’s Creek costars keep in touch and rallied around James Van Der Beek during his 2024 cancer diagnosis.
“Busy [Philipps] and Michelle [Williams] are very, very close. And Katie and I are very close,” Joshua revealed to the former Modern Family actor, 49. “It’s not a daily call. Sometimes it’s not a weekly or monthly or even a half-yearly call. But when you’re together, A, there’s always that, like, I know you know.”
Joshua added, “And B, there is, you know, these moments, like, these major moments in life are, like, other than your husband, there’s probably no other people in your life that you are that forged to. Because you had to go through good and bad, and happy and f–k you, and don’t talk to me and I love you.”
Katie, 46, and Joshua’s Dawson’s Creek characters, Joey Potter and Pacey Witter, fell in love and ended up together in the series. Their offcamera romance, however, only lasted one year between 1997 and 1998.
“I’m just going to say that I met somebody last year,” Holmes told Rolling Stone in 1998, without mentioning Joshua by his name. “I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always.”
The Batman Begins starlet continued to the publication, “I feel so fortunate because he’s now one of my best friends. He’s been in the business so long, and he’s really helped me. I respect him as a friend and as a professional.”
Katie and Joshua respectively moved on and embarked on new relationships after their split. Both ended up tying the knot with their future Mr. and Mrs., and are now divorcees.
The First Daughter actress was married to Tom Cruise, whom she started dating in 2005. The following April, the couple welcomed their daughter, Suri Cruise. Seven months later, Katie and Tom, 62, tied the knot in a fairytale-like Italian castle alongside their A-list guests, including Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham and David Beckham.
Katie filed for divorce from the Top Gun actor in June 2012, and it was settled 11 days later.
Joshua, for his part, tied the knot with now-ex-wife Jodie Smith Turner after the DJ had them falling in love at Usher’s 40th birthday party in 2018. The following August, rumors swirled that the pair secretly said “I Do,” and a source confirmed the nuptials to People four months later.
The Murder Mystery 2 actress, 38, gave birth to their daughter, Juno Rose Diana Jackson, in April 2020. Jodie filed for divorce from Joshua in October 2023, which is still ongoing as of publication.
“I don’t think it’s a failure,” the family matriarch told The Times in February 2024. “We obviously had such a beautiful moment together. And now it’s time for a new moment for both of us. And how exciting! The bravest thing in the world is to recognize when something’s not working and to make a move, and I always want to set that kind of example for my daughter.”
