After posting a critical article about the financial status of ‘Sinners’ – despite the movie opening to a 60 million debut weekend – Variety has been lashed by not only Ben Stiller but the Internet at large for pushing a narrative about the film being a financial disappointment.
Now, it appears they’ve changed their tune. They’ve since posted an article titled “5 Reasons Why Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s ‘Sinners’ Ruled the Box Office“. The post is a far cry from the post that gained them criticism in the first place, in which they noted about the successful movie: “profitability remains a ways away“. Variety is generally viewed as a trade publication.
As previously reported right here on ONTD, studios are apparently panicking about Ryan Coogler’s Warner Bros deal, and want the movie to flop as a result. Instead, the movie has been garnering massive praise, financial success, and a very effective word-of-mouth campaign.
