Avios are the currency used by the British Airways Club, Club Iberia Plus, Finnair Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub and Qatar Airways Privilege Club loyalty programs — and now also the Loganair Loyalty program. You can earn and redeem Avios if you have a frequent flyer account with any (or all) of these airlines.

You can transfer Avios between any of these programs at a ratio of 1:1, so 1 British Airways Avios is worth 1 Qatar Airways Avios and vice versa. Depending on the award redemption, you may wish to transfer your Avios between the different programs because Avios have slightly different values within each program.

Previously, Avios.com was a handy platform for moving Avios between multiple programs. However, this platform no longer functions perfectly, so some extra effort is required to move Avios between accounts.

So, how exactly can you move your Avios around? Let’s take a closer look.

Unfortunately, you can’t always directly move Avios from one program to another. Some transfers require an extra step. Here are the options:

    Aer Lingus AerClub
    • British Airways Club
    • Club Iberia Plus
    British Airways Club

    • Loganair Loyalty

    • Aer Lingus AerClub
    • British Airways Club

You’ll notice that most transfers involve British Airways Club.

For example, if you wish to move your Avios from Finnair to Qatar Airways, you’ll need to transfer them from Finnair to British Airways and then from British Airways to Qatar Airways.

Remember, your personal details for the two accounts you move Avios between must match, so ensure they are up to date before attempting the transfer.

Transfers are at a 1:1 ratio and can be made in any direction at any time, so you are not locked into one Avios program once you have made your transfer.

Move Avios to and from Qatar Airways Privilege Club

You can move Avios between Qatar Airways and British Airways on the Avios website. To do so, you’ll need to log in to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account, so make sure the details match.

If you have Avios with Aer Lingus, Iberia, Loganair and/or Finnair and want to transfer them to Qatar Airways, you’ll need to transfer them to British Airways first.

Move Avios to and from Finnair Plus

Finnair Plus lets members transfer Avios to and from the British Airways Club program. The process on this Avios page is the same as with Qatar Airways Privilege Club. Link your account by logging in to Finnair Plus; Avios can be moved back and forth at a 1:1 ratio.

Again, if your Avios are in Club Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub, Loganair Loyalty or Qatar Airways Privilege Club, you must move them to British Airways Club before moving them to Finnair Plus (or vice versa).

In our testing, transfers to and from AerClub were the most prone to fail. If you receive an error message, try completing the process in a different browser or in incognito mode. Call AerClub at 855-585-8264 if all else fails to see if a representative can manually move the Avios for you.

Move Avios to and from Loganair Loyalty

Loganair, the largest regional airline in the United Kingdom, recently adopted Avios as its loyalty currency. You can transfer Avios between British Airways Club and Loganair Loyalty by linking your accounts. Ensure your personal information is correct in both to ensure a smooth transfer experience.

    Other ways to earn Avios

You can transfer your credit card points to Avios-based programs and combine them using the above method. Here are your transfer options:

These transfers are at a 1:1 ratio, except for Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott points transfer at a 3:1 ratio, with a 5,000-Avios bonus offered for every 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points you transfer (60,000 points become 25,000 Avios, for example).

Given it can be tricky to transfer from some Avios programs to another, it may be smart to earn transferable credit card points that transfer to several different Avios programs, so you can just transfer them directly to your Avios program of choice.

    Bottom line

While moving Avios between programs might initially seem complicated, it’s worth the effort for the excellent flexibility and value. For award travelers, transferring Avios in any direction an unlimited number of times at no additional cost is exceedingly helpful.

British Airways Club is a safe bet if you want to focus on only one Avios program. It’s the largest program and has the easiest-to-use technology. However, each program has its own sweet spots, so if you have a redemption in mind, consider which option will get you the best value for your rewards.

Ideally, a single platform would be available to link all six Avios programs and allow transfers to every program in one place. Unfortunately, until such a platform exists, you’ll need to follow these steps to move your Avios where you need them.
