Bella Ramsey considers themselves an environmentalist, and their contract on The Last of Us reflects this label.
While many stars have “riders” in their contracts – which is usually a list of requirements on set, such as food requests, comfort requests, and more – the 21-year-old star requests a “Green Rider.”

The performing arts trade union in the UK, Equity, actually lays out what a Green Rider is: it’s “a set of clauses you can add to your contract setting out the sustainable actions you are willing to take, and what you ask of the production in return. This can be opting for travel by trains over planes, avoiding over-sized trailers for star cast, and reusing sets and costumes.”
THR notes it also includes “electric vehicles and reducing food and material waste.”
Bella explained, “It covers every department, and the producers have to adhere to certain things and so does the actor. Both parties have to be accountable for being sustainability-conscious throughout the shoot. Making sustainable choices on set should be built into the very fabric of the production because it’s not that difficult.”
“I come to L.A. and I see fridges full of plastic water bottles and I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’ It’s bizarre to me. I don’t know if any industry is particularly doing enough, but Hollywood is an industry which has a lot of influence,” Bella continued.
Bella added about the set, “Everybody should know they’re valued as a crewmember, as a castmember, and that we’re all equals.”
