Live TV, folks. Members of the SNL audience blurted out “Shit” in an Ego Nwodim call and response bit on Weekend Update. pic.twitter.com/ZL8IlBfUW3

• Listen. Every once in a while, something happens on SNL that makes watching it live completely worth it. And this week’s example comes in the form of a delightful Ego Nwodim Weekend Update piece.
• Her piece was ostensibly about the recent decision to no longer have comedians host the White House Correspondents Dinner, but immediately pivoted into a bit where she auditions for the gig with her stand-up “alter ego” Miss Eggy. She engages in some call and response with the audience a few times, and the second time she asks them to respond to “men ain’t what?” The audience immediately responds in unison, yelling out “Shit.” Nwodim, Che, and Jost were clearly not expecting that, but Nowdim plays it off like a champ, telling the audience, “You finna get fined for that…y’all gonna have to pay for that! Lorne gonna be mad at y’all.”
• The moment did get bleeped on NBC’s social media uploads of the sketch, as well as the official YouTube upload but will live on forever in my heart at least. Watch the full sketch here.

• The night kicked off with the required Jack Black monologue song, where he took us to all the way up to the bleachers (blink and you’ll miss some familiar faces in the audience like Bill Burr and Kieran Culkin), before running back down and ending the song off with a bang next to cast members Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernandez, and Kenan Thompson. Fun fact: Jack Black hosted Kenan Thompson’s first ever episode as a cast member way back in 2003.
• A spiritual successor to the Jumanji sketch from Kristen Wiig’s episode last season? Dismukes and Black yelling at each other, plus JAJ’s performance is enough to get this one over.
• Jack Black pulls some classic Dreamworks face, and Bowen Yang and Ego Nwodim serve while humblebragging.
• Brandi Carlile swoops in on some wires to really bring this one home.
• Marcello Hernandez and Jane Wickline finally return as The Couple You Can’t Believe Are Together and they’re just as delightful as they were the first time around.
• To quote the PopCrave tweet about this sketch: Michael Longfellow “stuns” as the Goth Kid on Vacation. The “Welcome to the Black Parade” interpolation is brilliant.
