It all started six years ago when actor Nick Barrotta was cast on BET’s political drama series, The Oval, where he forged a lifelong friendship and mentorship with executive producer Tyler Perry. Now reflecting on his work with Life & Style, Nick shares the lessons he’s learned along the way from the successful entrepreneur.
“Tyler Perry is a powerhouse and a pioneer in the entertainment industry,” Nick, 34, exclusively tells Life & Style. “He has taught me so much over the years but he is a constant reminder that no dream is too big.”
Not only has Tyler, 55, taught Nick to reach for his goals but he’s also changed the way he measures success. “It’s not about the material things, it’s truly about how many lives you can impact and what you can do for others,” the “Here’s to Life!” podcast host explains.
Nick will star in yet another Tyler Perry Studios production titled DUPLICITY – available to stream on Prime Video on March 20 – where he notes fans can expect “a lot of twists and turns” as the “legal thriller will keep [everyone] on the edge of [their] seat!”
Featuring Kat Graham, Meagan Tandy, Joshua Adeyeye and Tyler Lepley, the film follows high-powered attorney Marley (Kat Graham) who is faced with solving the murder of her best friend Fela’s (Meagan Tandy) husband (Joshua Adeyeye). With the help of her boyfriend (Tyler Lepley), who is a former cop turned private investigator, Marley’s quest to find the shooter “leads her down a treacherous maze of deception and betrayal,” according to the film’s official summary.
“Kat Graham steps into a role we’ve never seen her in before and it’s awesome to see the leap she took playing Marley,” Nick explains. “My character, Sam, is a news producer and steps up to help when Fela finds out her husband is murdered. He is passionate about the news station and takes pride in his job… and, more importantly, wants to uncover the truth!”
While viewers can gear up to watch Nick in this new role, he tells Life & Style there’s another genre he hopes to tackle next.
“Most of the roles I’ve gotten have been heavier in drama. I think it would be fun to explore a new genre like romantic comedy,” he says. “Let’s manifest it!”
