Jessica Simpson and estranged husband Eric Johnson’s marriage may be slowly coming to an end, but that isn’t keeping their relationship status off of a positive path.
The “With You” singer, 44, gave fans an update on her relationship with Eric, 45, while discussing her upcoming EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 1, with People.
“I’ve grown up so much. I can handle so much,” Jessica told the outlet in a story published on Wednesday, February 19. “Maybe I’m just meant to love a lot of people in my life.”
She later admitted that she doesn’t know why her “heart gets tossed around” but considers herself “one of the lucky ones.”
“At least I have my children and I still have Eric. He’s still very much a part of my life and will always be,” Jessica shared.
Earlier this month, the Dukes of Hazzard actress’ younger sister, Ashlee Simpson Ross, told Us Weekly that Jessica was in the “best, best spirits” despite announcing her separation from Eric after 10 years of marriage.
“We are strong little ladies, and, you know, I think that’s a cool thing about life is just always growing and finding yourself, wherever that’s supposed to be,” the “Pieces of Me” artist, 40, told the publication.
Jessica announced her split from Eric on January 13, revealing that they had been “living separately [and] navigating a painful situation in our marriage.”
“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them,” Jessica told People at the time. “We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Jessica and Eric, who tied the knot in July 2014, share three kids, son Maxwell Drew Johnson, 12, Ace Knute Johnson, 11, and Birdie Mae, 5.
Fans were concerned about the status of Jessica and the former NFL star’s marriage months before her official announcement. In September 2024, Life & Style reported that the couple’s marriage was “hanging on by a thread.”
“They’ve drifted apart and come closer together many times over,” a source exclusively told Life & Style at the time. “There have been a lot of ups and downs that they’ve worked through privately.”
Not to mention, Jessica skipped a public birthday shoutout to Eric for his 45th birthday and was spotted in public without her wedding ring.
The insider also dished about Jessica’s upcoming EP, noting, “She’s hoping it’s a comeback, but Eric’s pretty private, so it’s doubtful he’ll like being a part of that.”
By the following month, a second source exclusively told Life & Style that Jessica and Eric’s marriage was “pretty much over.”
Jessica shared photos via Instagram of herself in a music studio in November 2024, but her caption had fans chatting about her love life.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic. This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve,” she captioned the post.
