Renée Zellweger sparked fresh rumors she’s engaged when she covered up her left finger at the UK premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy – and a source exclusively tells Life & Style that she and boyfriend Ant Anstead are keeping everyone guessing about their current status, even their closest friends and family!
“Renée is almost militant about her privacy, she loves working on films and doesn’t mind doing the press that’s involved, but when it comes to her personal life she doesn’t want headlines,” the insider tells Life & Style. “That’s a big reason she and Ant are going out of their way to keep their plans hush hush, but it’s known among their friends and family that marriage is very much on the table.”
After noting that Ant, 45, “is a romantic,” the source explains that he “wants to make Renée his wife and she’s totally head over heels.”
“It’s just a matter of time before they pull the trigger,” the insider continues about their plans to wed in the future. “They haven’t announced an engagement, but they wouldn’t. She’s way too private to want to draw the attention.”
While it’s not publicly known if Renée, 55, and Ant have officially gotten engaged, the source says that they have already spoken about their dream wedding. “But they have both said how much they’d love to get married in the English countryside, maybe even on the property he’s fixing up for his parents,” the insider continues. “He’s still got a long way to go on the renovation of the house but there’s no reason they couldn’t set up something temporary for a small ceremony and celebration.”
The couple met in the spring of 2021 on the set of Celebrity IOU Joyride, and they confirmed their romance soon after when they were spotted out and about together in July of that year.
Despite dating for more than three years, Ant and Renée have chosen to keep many details of their romance out of the spotlight. However, she did make a rare comment about their relationship while speaking to British Vogue on January 15. At the time, she explained that she moved to “Southern California, near San Diego” in order to be closer to her boyfriend, “Because that’s where my fellow lives, and his little boy,” she said.
Renée does not have kids of her own, though she seems to have grown close with Ant’s son Hudson, whom he shares with his second ex-wife, Christina Haack. In addition to Hudson, 5, Ant also shares daughter Amelie, 21, and son Archie, 18, with his first ex-wife, Louise Anstead.
Ant turned the Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy premiere into a family outing when he brought Amelie and Archie to the event. “Midweek movie night with the kiddos ….” he wrote alongside a photo with his two eldest children on the red carpet shared via Instagram on January 31. “The Movie was absolutely utterly brilliant and the lead actress was mesmerising and smoking HOT (I have a mega crush on her!) I’ve let the missus know she’s my hall pass … X.”
