During an interview with People for their new movie, Reese Witherspoon discussed a situation with Will Ferrell in which she says she is still haunted by a speech she once gave for a famous actress at an award ceremony.

Will and Reese were asking each other questions and the question was about witnessing a wedding mishaps and it lead to Reese talking about giving a speech and later regretting it:
“It literally haunts me,” says Witherspoon said, “So this friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award. But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her.”
Reese said describes the event as “British,” “elegant” and “classy” and her joking speech was the wrong move for the event. Reese mentioned that during the speech she joked the time the pair got bikini waxes.
After the event, Witherspoon said that the actress stopped speaking to her and they are no longer friends.
Just Jared solved the blind item and says the actress in question was Kate Winslet. The event was the 2007 BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards.
