Jessica Simpson looked as though she was channeling her days as Daisy Duke from The Dukes of Hazzard in a recent video she shared amid her split from estranged husband Eric Johnson.
Jessica, 44, promoted her new season of styles for her clothing collection sold at Wal-Mart via Instagram on Wednesday, January 22. In the clip, the “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” singer sported several different looks, including a pair of white daisy dukes shorts that she paired with a chambray button-down and a bright red belt. The former reality star also showed off a flowy floral dress, a cream colored maxi dress, swimsuits and more as she danced along with her daughter, Birdie.
“New season, new styles! Our latest collection available exclusively at @walmart,” Jessica captioned the clip.
Rumors of trouble in Jessica and Eric’s marriage began swirling in the second half of 2024. Jessica didn’t acknowledge Eric’s September 15 birthday on social media and both he and the “Irresistible” singer have been spotted out and about without their wedding rings.
At the end of October 2024, a source revealed to Life & Style that Jessica was “reevaluating her happiness, her marriage and her business empire” and said that she was “ready to start fresh.”
“It’s pretty much over between her and Eric; it’s only a matter of time before she files for divorce,” the insider continued. “He’s always been supportive and an amazing father. They tried couples counseling, which worked for a while, but then things went back to the way they were. They don’t spend nearly as much time together as they used to, and they’ve just grown apart.”
Then, on November 11, 2024, Jessica shared a cryptic message on Instagram that seemingly alluded that she and Eric, 45, had decided to call it quits.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” the Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica alum captioned a photo of herself wearing a white dress and platform boots. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
Fans flooded the comments wondering about Jessica’s relationship status.
“Is this J Simp saying she’s single?” wrote one Instagram user.
Another added, “I think so because she stopped posting about him a while ago and none of her pictures ever have a wedding ring.”
A third person chimed in and said, “Love you Jessica! Of course I don’t know anything regarding your husband, but if he’s been unfaithful, he is the most moronic man ever as you exude kindness and beauty.”
On November 19, 2024, a source exclusively told Life & Style that she and Eric had “been butting heads and living separate lives for an extremely long time.”
Less than two months later, the former couple confirmed that they were ending their marriage.
“Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” the “I Wanna Love You Forever” artist told People in a statement on January 13. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Jessica and Eric wed in July 2014 after four years of dating. In addition to Birdie, 5, the couple also shares daughter Max, 12, and 11-year-old son Ace.
