Amid the tense moments in season 4, part 2, of Outer Banks, one couple shared a life-changing moment that had nothing to do with the hunt for the blue crown.
Is Sarah From ‘Outer Banks’ Pregnant?
During season 4, episode 7, John B (Chase Stokes) noticed something seemed off with Sarah (Madelyn Cline). She insisted everything was fine, but snuck off to the drugstore for a pregnancy test. In the drugstore bathroom, she took the test and found that it was positive.
After Sarah sat with the news by herself for a minute, Kiara (Madison Bailey) came to check on her and was shocked to learn about the pregnancy. Sarah confirmed that the baby was John B’s but she wasn’t ready to tell him yet. Kiara assured her that John B loved her.
In episode 8, Sarah was finally ready to share her news with John B. As he frantically tried to learn more about the blue crown that the group was on the hunt for, Sarah interrupted him and told him she had something important to tell him.
“I’m really, really scared,” Sarah admitted. “I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to do this. I know you don’t know how to do this and we’re so young and I know the timing’s probably terrible and I know you and JJ (Rudy Pankow) want to go after that crown …”
John B assured Sarah, “I got you. It’s OK. I love you. We’re going to figure this out because we always do, right?”
Are John B and Sarah Married on ‘Outer Banks’?
John B and Sarah went to City Hall to get married and found that the building was closed. “I just really wanted to do it today,” Sarah said, upset. While at City Hall, they were approached by Topper (Austin North) and his crew, which put them on the run once again before they could tie the knot.
Although John B and Sarah didn’t make their union official, they did previously exchange unofficial vows during season 2 of the show. During the sweet moment, John B gave Sarah a piece of his father’s bandana to commit his love to her. While accepting the “ring,” Sarah said, “By the power vested in me, by the sky, the stars, and the sea, I now pronounce us husband and wife.” John B added, “Through sickness and health. Rich and poor. ‘Til death do us part.” However, they are not legally married.
Are Sarah and John B From ‘Outer Banks’ Still Together in Real Life?
Madelyn and Chase – the actors who portray Sarah and John B – used to date in real life too, but have since broken up.
The actors met while filming season 1 of the show in 2019 and confirmed their relationship in June 2020, two months after the series first premiered on Netflix. The former couple celebrated their one-year anniversary in April 2021, but by November of that year, they had broken up.
Amid the breakup, season 3 of Outer Banks began filming and fans feared that Madelyn would be exiting the series so she wouldn’t have to work with her ex. She denied the rumors in January 2022, writing on Instagram, “Hi so I’m getting asked if s3 is my final season of obx. I will come back for as many seasons as they will have me. I love my job and there’s not a day that goes by that I’m not grateful for it, and for everyone who has watched it.”
While promoting season 3 of Outer Banks in February 2023, Madelyn and Chase were open about how they navigated working together after their split. “We made a promise to each other before we even started dating that the work was always going to come first,” Chase told Entertainment Weekly. “And that no matter what happens in our personal lives, and the ways that life sometimes takes you in different directions, that we’re always going to honor the work. That stayed 100 percent truthful this season.”
She reiterated his statement, adding, “We had a working relationship before we had a personal relationship and our job from day one has always been to leave the show better than we found it. I’m really, really happy and I’m very proud of the work this season, and I’m incredibly grateful for my co-stars and their professionalism and just how talented each and every one of them are.”
Chase confirmed his relationship with Kelsea Ballerini around the same time, but he and Madelyn have continued to work together professionally. Their relationship on Outer Banks continued into season 4, despite their IRL breakup. In November 2024, it was confirmed that season 5 would be the final season of Outer Banks.
